Views from The Yellowhammer State: Moundville

Greetings Everyone,

On Wednesday, September 1st, I hopped in the car and headed down the road just a little ways to the town of Moundville, located in Hale County just outside of Tuscaloosa. I decided to focus on the actual town area instead of the nearby Moundville Archaeological Park. The photos, of course, are a continuation of my "Views from The Yellowhammer State" series.

The Rude Mechanicals Present: Shake-Scenes #4

I recently had the opportunity to photograph a rehearsal and performance of Shake-Scenes #4, an anthology presented by Tuscaloosa's local traveling Shakespeare troupe, The Rude Mechanicals.

They had their opening performance on Wednesday, August 11th at The Park at Manderson Landing, located on the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa. They will be performing their until Friday, August 13th, and then they will be performing at Midtown Village on Saturday, August 14th. All shows begin at 7:00 P.M. with a musical performance, and the scenes start around 7:30 P.M.

Do yourselves a favor and support this group and what they do. They are some very talented performers, and it is a great thing for the Tuscaloosa community to have. For their Facebook group, please check out:

Views from The Yellowhammer State: The Birmingham Zoo

On Sunday, August 8th, I took a trip home to the Birmingham area, and I decided to make a new edition to the "Views from The Yellowhammer State" collection by visiting The Birmingham Zoo.

I've taken a lot of photos at The Birmingham Zoo over the years, but it had been a while since I had last visited, so it was nice to take another trip.

The full gallery can be viewed at http://www.dsmithgalleries.com/g/birminghamzoo and samples can be viewed at http://www.dsmithimages.com under the "Scenic Alabama" gallery.

Enjoy!

Views from The Yellowhammer State: Tuscumbia

I recently headed north to the Shoals/Quad Cities area of Alabama and was fortunate enough to photograph the town of Tuscumbia, Alabama. For those who don't know, Tuscumbia is the home of Helen Keller, and her residence, Ivy Green, is a popular tourist attraction in the town. I was able to photograph the grounds of Ivy Green along with the town's depot museum, which celebrates the town's frontier railroad history, and the town's Spring Park. All in all, it was a great trip to a very nice and friendly part of Alabama.

For the full gallery, you can visit http://www.dsmithgalleries.com/g/colbertcounty

A collection of photos also exist at http://www.dsmithimages.com under the "Scenic Alabama" gallery.

Be on the look out for more from this series as DSmithImages continues to show you "Views from The Yellowhammer State".

Homegrown Alabama Farmers' Market: 07/22/10

On Thursday, July 22nd, I went back out to the Homegrown Alabama Farmer's Market, which was held on the grounds of Canterbury Episcopal Chapel near the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. New vendors were on display, and Billy Snowden was providing the musical entertainment.

The market runs every Thursday in the summer from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and exclusively features Alabama vendors.

Please visit and support Homegrown Alabama at http://www.homegrownalabama.org
